Leadership Honor Code

In 1st Corinthians 11:1, Paul tells the church in Corinth to follow his example, as he follows the example of Christ. In other words, Paul said he was a Role Model for those he led.  There are many positions and areas of serving at GraceLife where it is implied, like it or not, that you are in a Role Model Role for Christ through your position. As such, we ask all leaders and those in roles of influence to adhere to our Leadership Honor Code.

Leadership Honor Code

Deacons, likewise, are to be men worthy of respect, sincere, not indulging in much wine, and not pursuing dishonest gain. They must keep hold of the deep truths of the faith with a clear conscience ... They must first be tested; and then if there is nothing against them, let them serve as deacons.
1 Timothy 3:8-10

As an essential part of the GraceLife Church Leadership family, we have a responsibility to develop and exhibit mature Christian behavior. This should be the basic premise of our desire to participate in a servant-leader position here at GraceLife Church. In both attire and behavior, we should strive to demonstrate Biblical standards in all situations, in a way  that does not cause others to stumble or distract from the glory of Christ. We should also refrain from such things as:

  • profanity
  • smoking, vaping, or chewing tobacco (habitual or addictive behavior)
  • gambling (habitual or addictive behavior)
  • drunkenness, excessively indulging in alcoholic beverages
  • dishonest gain
  • illegal drugs
  • ungodly speech (including verbal, written, and digital)
  • pornography
  • sexual immorality
  • promoting symbols, objects, and imagery of other religions (Buddha statues, Yin Yang, Hindu Art, etc.)
  • membership in secret societies
  • all behaviors which might cause Christ to grieve and others to stumble

By providing an example in speech and action, we encourage others to grow in Christ and become servant-leaders themselves. This is a way of life measured by the heart and commitment of each leader in the GraceLife Church family. We should regard it as an essential part of our development, not as an imposition, restriction, or standard of perfection.

I believe that I meet the qualifications for serving as a Leader at GraceLife Church. I will support the Vision and live the Values of GraceLife Church, as well as embrace and teach Christian principles as stated in the GraceLife Church By-Laws  (section 2.08) and to be held accountable by them.
